Tree Planting in Lynn & Across the North Shore

The right tree, in the right spot, planted the right way. Our ISA-Certified Arborists set trees up to thrive for decades, not just survive their first season.

Planting Done Properly, Not "Dig a Hole and Hope"

A tree is a long-term investment in your property, and how it goes into the ground on day one decides how well it does for the next twenty years. At Zacarias Tree & Landscaping, we treat planting as a skilled installation, not a quick favor. Every job starts with a real evaluation of the site: sun exposure, prevailing wind, drainage, soil conditions, and the tree’s mature canopy and root spread. We also account for the practical stuff that trips people up later, like setbacks from structures, driveways, and overhead or underground utilities.

We install a full range of trees for homeowners and light commercial properties across Lynn and the wider North Shore, including shade trees for the yard, ornamental trees for curb appeal, and evergreens planted for privacy and screening. We also handle replacement trees when a removal leaves a gap you want filled. Whatever the goal, the aim is the same: place the tree where it has room to grow into its full size without crowding the house, the sidewalk, or the neighbor’s fence.

How Zacarias Plants a Tree

Our crews follow International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) planting guidance on every install, because the details that seem minor are exactly the ones that determine whether a tree establishes or slowly declines. Here is what that looks like in practice:

  • Set the finished grade correctly and confirm the root flare, the point where the trunk widens into the roots, sits at the right height. Planting too deep is one of the most common ways a healthy tree gets slowly killed.
  • Prep the root ball so the roots can actually move out into your native soil instead of circling in place.
  • Backfill to reduce air pockets without over-amending the hole, so roots are encouraged to grow outward rather than staying stuck in a pocket of “nicer” soil.
  • Apply mulch as a protective ring, not a mulch volcano piled against the trunk, which traps moisture and invites rot and pests.
  • Stake or protect the tree only when appropriate for wind exposure or site traffic, and never leave staking on longer than it should be.

Before we leave, we walk you through practical watering guidance for the establishment period. That first season is when most young trees are won or lost, and a little direction goes a long way. And as with all our work, the job ends with complete site cleanup, so you are left with a planted tree and a tidy yard, not a pile of soil, packaging, and debris.

What Affects Cost and What to Expect

We provide free estimates, and we would rather explain the factors honestly than quote a number that doesn’t fit your site. Tree planting cost is mainly driven by a few things: the size and type of tree being installed, site access for the crew and any equipment, soil conditions, and whether machinery is needed to dig or move a large root ball. Extra prep work, such as grading adjustments or removing obstacles before the tree can go in, can also add to the scope.

On timing, many installations can be completed in a single visit, though larger trees, tight access, or sites that need prep may take longer. It is also worth planning ahead: the spring and fall planting windows are the best times to get trees in the ground, and those slots fill up quickly on the North Shore. Reaching out early gives you the best shot at planting during the ideal window.

Our crews are experienced and used to working around the constraints of typical residential and light commercial properties, from fenced backyards to trees going in near patios and walkways. Zacarias has been a family-run business since 2002, and our team carries 85+ years of combined experience across more than 1,500 local jobs. We are licensed, bonded, and fully insured, and TCIA-accredited, so the work is done to professional standards and properly protected.

Tree Planting FAQs

Common Questions About Tree Planting

When is the best time to plant a tree on the North Shore?

Spring and fall are the ideal planting windows in our climate, because cooler temperatures and steadier moisture let a tree establish its roots before facing summer heat or deep winter. These windows fill up quickly, so it helps to reach out early to reserve a spot in the schedule.

What kinds of trees do you plant?

We install shade trees, ornamental trees for curb appeal, and evergreens for privacy and screening, as well as replacement trees after a removal. During your free estimate we can talk through what will do well in your specific soil, light, and space.

Why does planting depth matter so much?

Planting too deep is one of the most common reasons a healthy young tree slowly declines. We set the finished grade so the root flare, the point where the trunk widens into the roots, sits at the correct height, which lets the tree breathe and establish properly.

Do you clean up after planting?

Yes. Complete site cleanup is included on every job. We haul away soil, packaging, and debris and leave a tidy planted area, mulched with a proper protective ring rather than a mound piled against the trunk.

How long does planting a tree take?

Many installations are finished in a single visit. Larger trees, tight access, or sites that need grading or obstacle removal beforehand can take longer, and we will let you know what to expect as part of your estimate.

Do you stake newly planted trees?

Only when it is appropriate, such as for wind exposure or high site traffic. Unnecessary staking, or staking left on too long, can actually weaken a tree, so we use it selectively and remove it once the tree is established.
