Serving Reading

A Wooded Town of Big, Mature Trees

Zacarias has worked Reading since 2002. It’s a green, wooded suburb — generous lots shaded by tall oak, maple, and white pine, with conservation land and the Town Forest threaded through the neighborhoods and wetlands feeding the upper Saugus and Ipswich River systems. All that mature canopy is what makes Reading feel the way it does, and it’s also a lot of large wood standing over homes and driveways.

When a big oak or pine needs to come down on a tight or sloped lot, that’s proper-rigging or crane-assisted work — not a job to force. Regular pruning keeps mature trees sound and lowers storm risk, our 24/7 crew is ready when a nor’easter hits, and beyond tree work we build and maintain full landscaping and hardscaping — all from one certified, insured local team.

Permits & Local Rules

Do You Need a Permit to Remove a Tree in Reading?

Under state law (MGL c.87), a tree in the public way near the street is a “public shade tree” and needs Tree Warden approval to remove. A tree in your own yard usually doesn’t need a town permit — but if your lot borders wetlands, a brook, or conservation land (common in Reading’s wooded areas), it can fall under the Conservation Commission’s buffer, where removals may need review. Our ISA-Certified Arborists will help you sort out which applies and can prepare any report the town requires. Confirm the specifics with the town before work begins.

FAQ

Reading Tree & Landscape Questions

Can you remove a large oak or pine on my wooded lot?

Yes — big trees on wooded lots are our specialty. When there's no clear room to fell one safely, we use crane-assisted removal to lift it out in controlled sections, protecting the house, driveway, and surrounding trees.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Reading?

A private-yard tree away from wetlands generally doesn't need a town permit. Street trees are protected under state law (MGL c.87), and lots near wetlands or conservation land may need Conservation Commission review. We'll help you confirm first.

Is pruning worth it for my mature trees?

Very much so. Pruning a large canopy reduces wind resistance and removes weak or dead limbs before a storm brings them down — one of the best-value ways to protect both the tree and your home.

Do you do more than tree work?

Yes — full landscaping and hardscaping too: lawn installation, planting, patios, walkways, and retaining walls. Estimates are always free.
